Preschool Teacher

Employees of the Bowdoin College Children's Center have the responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of all the children in the classroom. In addition, they support the mission and philosophy of the center, provide a nurturing, consistent, developmentally appropriate environment that meets the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of the infants. They develop and maintain parent relationships and consistently collaborate and support colleagues in the infant/toddler room as well as center-wide.

35 hours/week between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m, Monday thru Friday. Hours may vary slightly within the standard work week depending on classroom needs.

Associate Degree in early childhood education, or a related field required, and a minimum of 2 years' experience working with children birth – 8 years, preferably in an accredited child care program.

 

Bachelors or Master's degree in early childhood education, or a related field, with experience in practicum settings and/or summer employment in working with children birth – 8 years.

 

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and a genuine commitment to the field of early childhood education. Flexibility and skills to work with preschool aged children (3-5 years old).

Experience working with emergent curriculum or Reggio Emilia inspired programs is highly desirable. A valid driver's license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College's Motor Vehicle Use Policy; and current CPR/First Aid certification. Must also sign Child Abuse Policy statement, complete the College's OSHA blood borne pathogen training and show proof of Hepatitis B vaccination (or submit a written declination statement).
