Assistant/Associate Professor of Musical Theatre with Emphasis in Voice

The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Musical Theatre with an emphasis in Voice. We seek a qualified educator with experience at the college level who is committed to cultivating the next generation of theatre professionals, teachers, and leaders while serving UTEP's dynamic student population and contributing to a framework of access and excellence. The successful candidate will contribute to UTEP's status as an R1 institution by having a robust agenda for research, grant writing, and/or ongoing relevant creative and professional work in the industry. The candidate will direct/serve as Music Director for season musicals and teach and develop a variety of musical theatre classes from introductory to advanced levels including individual voice lessons. Other duties include professional, university, college and departmental service and fostering collegial, professional, and community collaborations. Professional training in musical theater performance and/or directing musicals is highly desirable.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank:
  • An MFA or other terminal degree in Theatre, with a clear emphasis on Musical Theatre and/or Voice
  • Minimum of three years of professional Musical Theatre acting and/or directing at the national or international level as well as college teaching experience
  • Clear and demonstrated potential for research at UTEP, creative scholarship, and/or ongoing professional work
  • A demonstrated commitment to serving and mentoring a diverse population in a student-centered educational environment

Required Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank:
  • An MFA or other terminal degree in Theatre, with a clear emphasis on Musical Theatre and/or Voice
  • Minimum of seven years of professional Musical Theatre acting and/or directing at the national or international level and minimum of six years of college teaching experience
  • Clear and demonstrated potential for research at UTEP, creative scholarship, and/or ongoing professional work
  • A demonstrated commitment to serving and mentoring a diverse population in a student-centered educational environment
  • Strong publication record
  • Demonstrated history of extramural research support
  • Extensive level of professional accomplishment commensurate with the position rank
  • Union membership in AEA, SDC, or SAG

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced level piano skills
  • Significant conducting experience
  • Documented track record of interdisciplinary research
