The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Technician assists with the daily responsibilities of the DME program and with Medical Assistants in patient care. The DME Technician works between multiple locations and transfers between clinics throughout the week.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities of the DME Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Place orders for DME, casting, splinting, and medical supplies
  • Manage inventory, including checking in products, stocking and organizing cast rooms, and stocking clinics
  • Support and manage monthly inventory counts and document incoming/outgoing DME
  • Assist with daily DME reporting and authorization tracking
  • Assist with authorizations of specialty bracing and schedule fittings
  • Work with providers and staff in providing patient education on products and safety in-house
  • Aid Medical Assistants in daily casting and splinting
  • Assist with Medical Assistant tasks including: rooming, patient care, phone calls, faxing, and machine maintenance
  • Contributes to the development and evolution of the expanding DME program
  • Adhere to OSHA safety rules and HIPAA regulations
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • NATA-BOC Certified with current WA State License
  • 1-3 years of experience using DME in a clinical setting strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art bracing and DME products and procedures.
  • Skill in applying and modifying braces and DME products to assist the patients need.
  • Knowledge of medical safety practices and ability to evaluate existing safety standards.
  • Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ability to treat others with respect.
  • Exhibit strong computer skills.
  • Exhibit the ability to measure functional braces whether it is custom or OTS
  • Exhibit the ability to provide bracing options for the physicians and help guide the patient through the process
  • Exhibit the ability to fit off the shelf bracing

Work may be performed in an office and clinical environment. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate is required to sit for long periods of time, stand and walk, bend and stretch. Use of telephone and computer is required. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. May requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
