This role requires a flexible schedule based on athletic event demands, which will include weekdays, evenings, and weekends depending on practice schedules, games, and other events.



Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Athletic Trainer Senior to join our team, providing athletic training services and overseeing the athletic training staff at Kentucky State University.

This role includes supervisory responsibilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to student-athletes while also managing and mentoring other athletic trainers. You will work closely with university athletic staff, coaches, and healthcare professionals to ensure the health, safety, and optimal performance of athletes across all sports programs. Time will be split with direct athletic training coverage as well as administrative oversight of the program to assist with overall compliance and fiscal management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the athletic training staff, ensuring consistent delivery of care during practices, games, and other athletic events.
  • Evaluate and manage athletic injuries, including acute and chronic conditions, and develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Oversee the implementation of injury prevention programs and ensure that athletes are educated on proper techniques to minimize injury risk.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for athletic training services, coordinating with team physicians, coaches, athletic directors, and other healthcare providers for comprehensive athlete care.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and evaluation of athletic training staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and university policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation activities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor emergency action plans for athletic venues, ensuring staff preparedness.

Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s required; Master’s degree preferred in Athletic Training
  • Board of Certification (BOC) certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Kentucky.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in athletic training, with previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
