How will you make an impact in this role?

American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) has a stated ambition to become the leading payments and working capital provider for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) customers. This includes ensuring each customer has access to business-sized purchase capacity, flexible payment options, meaningful rewards and the powerful backing of American Express.

The Small Business Products & Blueprint organization supports this objective by developing compelling products, services and customer engagement strategies to meet small business owners’ funding needs. As part of this organization, the Business Line of Credit team has achieved a tremendous growth since its inception and is poised to continue in the next 3 years. The product is a key component of American Express’s ongoing efforts to innovate beyond the Card. 

The role of Director, Product Management (Lending - Business Line of Credit) will be responsible for leading a high-performing team to drive product strategy and execution, with a focus on strong and sustainable product acquisition.

This role requires a blend of strategic and customer-oriented thinking, structured and collaborative problem solving, and hands-on management to deliver a competitive product that meets the evolving needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the product acquisition strategy for Business Line of Credit
  • Oversee the creation of thorough market research and competitive positioning to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks in the space.
  • Leverage both internal and external data to develop solutions tailored to meet cardmembers’ financing needs
  • Collaborate with partner teams to ensure compelling and cohesive product messaging, effective go-to-market strategies, and successful product and feature launches
  • Coordinate with key business partners to optimize acquisition funnel and attract best-fit customers to the BLOC program, driving overall cardmember penetration
  • Work in close concert with development partners to manage product / feature roadmap and facilitate structured trade-off conversations
  • Define and closely monitor key performance metrics to identify growth opportunities
  • Manage and maintain strong operational risk management culture / practices / metrics across the relevant customer journeys
  • The ideal candidate has a proven history in product management, a customer-centric approach to design, knowledge of the small business segment, and a fluency in lending economics and P&L management. Success will require a collaborative leader with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment leading strategic initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong customer mindset and proven experience translating customer insights into action
  • Strong, analytically focused approach to problem solving 
  • Prior experience leading teams and driving strong employee engagement with a proven track-record of developing talent
  • Superior relationship management and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to collaborate, influence and inspire business partners and senior leaders
  • Creative thinker with the ability to frame forward-thinking strategies rooted in data and action-oriented recommendations
  • Bachelor's degree required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in lending economics and profitability dynamics
  • Prior small business financing experience

Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
