Job Description:

Saybrook University seeks a full-time research faculty member to join its academic Department of Research. This faculty member will teach research courses, assess and develop our research curriculum, and provide administrative support for the Department of Research. Ideal candidates have expertise in advanced research methods and a commitment to the mission and values of the Department of Research. Additionally, candidates should have at least three to five years of experience in research instruction, be active researchers, and have higher education administration experience.

Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Research, the research faculty member is responsible for:

  • Participating in curriculum development, employing a project management approach that supports program development
  • Teaching research courses across the research curriculum
  • Participating in department syllabi revisions to ensure instruction of competencies
  • Creating and presenting synchronous and asynchronous videoconference lectures for courses and the Department of Research
  • Providing rigorous and timely feedback for student discussions and assignments
  • Serving on dissertation committees
  • Serving on university committees
  • Engaging in professional development
  • Providing culturally responsive teaching among students from diverse backgrounds and students with learning differences
  • Supporting the evaluation and assessment of current university policies and procedures
  • Engaging in collaborative activities with professional staff, faculty, and students across the University
  • Providing responsive and timely communication with the Dean of Research and Sponsored Programs, Academic Program Chairs, and University staff
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of research-related programs at the University Learning Experiences (ULE).
  • Attending faculty retreats, graduation, or community learning experiences (may require travel)

In addition, candidates will hold expertise (as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications or prior specific course instruction), teach, and mentor student research in one or more of the following qualitative research methods:

  • Action Research
  • Autoethnographic Research
  • Case Study
  • Descriptive Phenomenology
  • Grounded Theory
  • Hermeneutic Phenomenology
  • Heuristic Research
  • Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA)
  • Narrative Research

Position Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning is required, ideally in psychology or integrative medicine.
  • Experience developing and teaching graduate research courses at foundational and advanced levels is required.
  • Experience mentoring students on dissertations is required.
  • Experience teaching research in asynchronous online learning
  • Experience with learning management systems (Canvas) and research/IRB best practices.
  • Published empirical research in peer-reviewed publications within the last five years.
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of new policies, procedures, and programs for the Department of Research
  • Experience with Office 365, software for data analysis (e.g., SPSS, NVivo), IRB administration, and educational software (e.g., Grammarly, ReciteWorks).
  • A record of training in conducting research with human subjects (e.g., CITI).

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $85,000.00 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
