The Garden Project Manager will oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of the college's Sustainability Garden. This will include leading the effort to develop the Garden’s Strategic and Landscape plans. This position will work collaboratively with staff, faculty, students, volunteers, and community partners to promote educational and sustainable practices. The Garden Manager will also coordinate closely with the THRIVE office and the Culinary Arts program to integrate gardening efforts with curriculum and community engagement.

  • Garden Management:
    • Design, implement, and maintain the HCC Garden’s (aka the Sustainability Garden) Strategic and Landscape plans.
    • Develop and manage planting schedules, crop rotations, and maintenance tasks.
    • Ensure sustainable gardening practices and promote biodiversity.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work with faculty and staff to integrate garden-related topics into curricula and workshops.
    • Coordinate with the THRIVE office to support the food pantry and student wellness initiatives through gardening activities.
    • Partner with the Culinary Arts program to create farm-to-table experiences, including cooking demonstrations and student projects.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Train and manage federal work study students and community volunteers for garden activities.
    • Organize events, workshops, and tours to promote garden awareness and community involvement.
    • Foster relationships with local organizations and community partners to enhance garden programming.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Manage garden budgets, grants, and resource allocations effectively.
    • Maintain records of garden activities, volunteer participation, and program outcomes.
    • Evaluate and report on the impact of garden initiatives on the college community.

REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, environmental science, agricultural science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in garden management, landscape maintenance, or similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and organic farming techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Experience in education, outreach, or community organizing is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and community engagement.

Working Conditions: This position may require working outdoors in various weather conditions and physical activity, including lifting and gardening tasks.

Part-Time, Non-Benefited Position

Hourly Rate: $21.00/hour

Hours:  Up to 18.5 hrs./week;

- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa. 
 Pre-Employment Background check, including Criminal History will be conducted for all positions.
