Business Continuity Management (BCM) is essential in today’s environment. The ability to respond to a disruption such as a natural disaster, infrastructure failure, or pandemic underpins our commitment to deliver for our customers and protect our colleagues.
The BCM team is part of the Global Services Group (GSG) at American Express. This team works with colleagues across the Company to oversee and implement resilience, continuity, and response capabilities to safeguard employees, customers, and products and services. The team coordinates planning and preparedness for potential service disruptions and other crises. The team also coordinates global or regional crisis responses, monitors developing issues while assessing organizational preparedness, and drives after-action crisis analyses and reporting for senior leaders.
The Business Continuity Strategy and Program Design Manager is responsible for supporting the implementation and strengthening of the company’s Business Continuity framework across the enterprise. This includes ensuring that a consistent framework is established to oversee and implement resilience, continuity, and response capabilities to safeguard colleagues, customers, and products and services. The Business Continuity Strategy and Program Design Manager will also support the daily processes and activities within the Business Continuity Management organization including analyzing data and processes, synthesizing program feedback to derive strategic insights, providing thought leadership into key findings and actionable recommendations to influence program strategy.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Support the development, coordination, and implementation of American Express’s global BCM program, including policy, regulatory compliance, third party risk management, reporting, training, and exercising.
- Serve as a liaison with our Business Continuity partners across the company.
- Drive the BCM program forward through planning and executing actionable recommendations.
- Oversee current risk assessment tools and techniques while establishing and maintaining guidelines and policies to support the deployment of BCM activities.
- Enhance current governance processes by driving improvement through identification of efficiencies and risk management strengthening opportunities.
- Provide project management leadership and support on program enhancements efforts.
- Support engagement with interdependent teams, including Third Party Lifecycle Management, Information Security and GCO, in defining and aligning on program linkages.
- Provide direction and business continuity subject matter expertise to business unit partners, as assigned, to drive engagement and accountability to ensure successful execution of first line responsibilities within the BCM program framework.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Background:
- Three to five plus years of prior experience in enterprise program management, operational risk management, business continuity, or audit within the Banking or financial services industries.
- Strong project management skills and expertise in process redesign.
- Solid conceptual thinking and risk mindset with ability to understand process and/or operations management.
- Problem solver and agile decision-maker with solid analytical skills.
- Strong written communication and presentation skills allowing for clear and appropriate messaging for multiple levels/audiences.
- Experience with troubleshooting issues and developing remediation plans, with clear stakeholder notifications.
- Ability to build relationships and effectively mobilize cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and effectively prioritize amid shifting focus, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Bachelor’s degree

- Excellent collaboration, communication. and presentation skills with ability to interact and influence leaders across all levels and teams in a matrixed organization.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
