Job Description 

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Assistant II, Art Studios provides support to faculty and helps facilitate student learning in the Art Department for a variety of related classes, which may include but are not limited to:  Ceramics, Design, Painting, Drawing, Photography and Art Appreciation.  Position provides assistance to faculty and students during labs, encourages student engagement and critical thinking, proactively supports the department, and maintains Art Studios and Art Inventories to ensure a clean and safe work/laboratory environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides Support to faculty with the delivery of open labs (such as helping students learn to use lab equipment, clarifying directions for procedures)
  • Assists students with basic questions/issues, staying within this position's level of responsibility (position is assisting in open labs, not instructing, grading or disciplining)
  • Consults with faculty and other Art staff in order to stay up-to-date with class information and faculty needs
  • Ensures clean Art laboratories and lab equipment
  • Ensures proper disposal of materials, including but not limited to paints, solvents, slips and glazes
  • Checks LSC emails and consults with supervisor regularly
  • Assists faculty with open labs and activities
  • Perform a variety of supply and materials functions, such as inventory, stock, and mix/prepare materials used in labs, and compile orders for materials as needed
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends if needed
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, fellow lab assistants and students
  • Proficient in standard art studio lab protocols
  • Foundational skills in supply management and materials handling
  • Familiarity with art media including drawing, design, painting, ceramics, and photography

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as kiln shelves, easels, chemical containers and bags of clay. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Position may involve some night and occasional weekend hours
  • The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary 

Hourly Pay Rate is $13.00
