Job Summary
Gateway Community and Technical College invites applications for the (Student Only) part-time position of Peer Mentor. This position provides case management support to Gateway students for housing, groceries, childcare, transportation, etc.
Job Duties:
Peer Mentors will provide Gateway students information about resources and conduct weekly check-ins consisting of: phone outreach, emailing, in-person appointments (if requested by the student), advocacy, referral to support services within Gateway and off-campus. Training is provided.
Availability: Flexible- report available hours to supervisor. Please note that you may be at various campuses. Prepare to be flexible
- Assist students/peers on caseloads by:
- Finding community resources, how to refer and follow up
- Finding support services and/or networks within Gateway, how to refer and follow up
- Initiate an application for state benefits (Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana), how to refer and follow up
- Conducting outreach and awareness activities to the target populations as well as mentoring with at-risk students
- Manage your assigned caseload, including:
- Outreach
- Awareness of services
- Follow Up
- Mentoring
- Referrals
- Internal/External Resources - Become knowledgeable of resources students can obtain and access-on and off of campus
- Provide Advocacy - Basic policy/eligibility knowledge of your cases’ concentration area.
- Data Entry/Tracking - responsible for showing the outcome of your case management. This may include, but not limited to phone call logs, email transmittances, face to face appointment tallies.
- Return Phone Calls promptly
- Starfish/Early Alert - Work with Site Lead on Starfish Retention Solutions.

- Self Sufficiency

- Financial Independence
- Projects
- Classroom presentations
- Table Outreach
Minimum Qualifications:
- GPA 2.5 or higher
- Knowledge needed in community resources and Gateway Community and Technical College resources
- Basic computer skills
Additional Skills Requested:
The Federal Work-Study Program provides funding for part-time employment to qualifying students. If you have unmet financial need as determined by the most recent FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), are enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at Gateway and have a GPA of at least 2.0, you may be eligible for FWS.
