As the triage counselor, you will act as a screener for risk and must be knowledgeable in determining appropriate modalities of care such as individual, group, couples counseling, and assessment. In this role you are responsible for providing consultations to university members who have concerns about the mental/emotional status of SCAD students through professional assessment, crisis, counseling, and outreach services. You will be expected to provide after-hours crisis response, assessment, on-call, and coordination as well as supervising and training new graduate hires. In this position you play a crucial role in the risk evaluation of incoming students and assisting in identifying and tracking at-risk students.

The ideal candidate must be adaptable to manage the demands of making referrals and assessing students and must demonstrate team skills that will be utilized to collaborate on treatment decisions for students. The candidate must be comfortable assisting in follow-up consultations; acting as a “first responder” to students in crisis; and making determinations for referrals, level of care, and the primary modality of treatment. This position has on-call responsibilities as well.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work and relevant professional degree and licensure in related field
  • Experience providing crisis intervention, triage, and care coordination to a diverse population of young adults
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to maintain a flexible yet highly organized working style and can utilize electronic records/scheduling program efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and clinical assessment skills with an established commitment to multicultural competencies

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • Experience working in a college/university counseling center
  • Experience working with serious mental illness
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a large mental health services agency
  • Previous work with electronic records and scheduling, preferably Titanium
  • Experience in risk assessment

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Independent license eligible in Georgia
  • Licensed in a mental health or counseling field or able to obtain license within four years

Travel Required:  

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
