Instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in the class. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats and at several different locations, as well as online. Instructors also communicate with students between classes and are responsible for several administrative duties such as reporting on academic activity and submitting final grades.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi and departmental guidelines.
2. Beginning and ending all classes as scheduled and covering all relevant learning outcomes for each course.
3. Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning, communicating with students weekly, and answering student emails in a timely manner.&nbsp;
4. Evaluating students using a variety of methods and informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
5. Using Cleveland State email for administrative purposes and responding to student questions via Cleveland State email in a timely manner.&nbsp;
6. Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, acknowledging contracts, academic activity and assessment reports, and final grades.&nbsp;
7. Submitting requests through the department chair, program coordinator/director, or lead teacher for equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids.
Qualifications:&nbsp;
Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited institution in a qualifying field or Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in a qualifying field along with demonstrated competencies in the field (see below).&nbsp;&nbsp;
*Candidates without the Associate degree may be considered with documentation of the following:&nbsp; * professional certification (national, regional or state) * professional employment/experience&nbsp; * teaching excellence * other competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes
Areas of teaching emphasis include one or more of the following disciplines:&nbsp; industrial safety, AC and DC circuits, electrical/mechanical print reading, fluid power (pneumatics and hydraulics), technical calculations, electrical motor controls, PLCs, and mechatronics.
Qualifying Fields include Engineering/Engineering Technologies, Electrical/Electronics/Industrial/Mechanical or other closely related field.&nbsp;
Availability/Closing Date:&nbsp;This posting is not a guarantee of an open position. Future teaching assignments are on a term-by-term basis, which may include fall, spring and summer. The adjunct faculty shall forward the dean no later than the end of the first (1st) week of classes in each session a course syllabus.</li><li>The adjunct faculty member will utilize active learning methods and use a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course. Such activities can include, but are not limited to: &nbsp;a.) Cooperative learning. &nbsp;b.) Experiential learning, c.) Writing for learning and/or Critical thinking initiatives.</li><li>The adjunct faculty member will remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in his/her professional content area(s).</li><li>The adjunct faculty member will arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner necessary to meet course objectives in collaboration with the area dean.</li><li>The adjunct faculty member will be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including assessment of student performance; including final grade reports.</li><li>The adjunct faculty members will be supportive of students' learning goals by: a.) Focusing on student learning outcomes b.) Taking into account the needs and abilities of the students c.) Becoming familiar with academic and social support.</li><li>Making reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences.</li><li>Maintaining the academic integrity of the college.</li><li>Making himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals.</li><li>The faculty member is aware of and recommends campus services to students as needed. These include library services, the library home page on the College site, financial aid, counseling, supplemental instruction, etc.</li><li>Adjunct Faculty are expected to attend all schedule classes. If it is necessary for the adjunct faculty member to miss a class, he/she will follow appropriate procedures by notifying the supervisor or the supervisor's designee and is responsible by providing an alternate assignment.</li><li>The adjunct faculty member will work in collaboration with the Dept. Chair to strengthen the Deaf Studies program.</li></ul>REQUIRED: &nbsp;&nbsp;Bachelor's Degree in Deaf related field; experience teaching ASL and/or Deaf Studies and native or near native fluency in ASL;&nbsp;Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff &amp; student body; Ability to teach in-person classes on the HCC campus.PREFERRED: &nbsp;Masters degree in Deaf related field; ASLTA certification; experience using the TRUE + WAY American Sign Language curriculum; experience using technology for instructional and educational purposes.
