Job Summary

The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS), a publicly supported research center within the University of Kentucky (UK), is recruiting two Geologist I personnel. These positions will be involved in the important effort to help Kentucky abate methane emissions and identify orphaned wells that pose other environmental hazards. Key position responsibilities include field work to collect methane concentration measurements from orphaned oil and gas wells, examine gas samples collected, and database entry of measurements.



The person in this position should be comfortable working in a team and safely in a field setting including driving long distances and overnight travel. As a representative of the Kentucky Geological Survey and the University of Kentucky, the person should be comfortable collaborating with outside contractors and staff from the KY Division of Oil and Gas. Experience with Excel data compilation is required. ArcGIS and Google Earth experience skills, and at least five years of a state issued driver’s license are preferred. Attention to detail, safety, courtesy and communication are a must. This exempt position is grant funded for two-years with all UK benefits and reimbursable travel expenses. This position will report to the the KGS main UK campus location.
